What’s Really Holding You Back? Achieving a Healthy Lifestyle, Naturally

Overcoming Barriers to Change.

By Eloise Charleson BHSc(Nat), MNHAA

Naturopath, Nutritionist, Herbalist

Have you ever felt ready to make a change, eat better, move more, sleep deeper, but somehow, it is difficult to commit?

You’re not alone. So many women, come to me feeling frustrated, tired, and stuck. They want to feel better. They try to do all the right things. But something keeps getting in the way.

I believe lasting change starts by understanding what’s really holding you back and knowing you don’t have to figure it out alone. Alongside the hats of Nutritionist and Naturopath, there are times when I need to don the hat called ‘Life Coach’. Even the best advice is useless if it isn’t given in conjunction with strategies to incorporate changes into your daily life. Even my clients that have so much knowledge about health find it useful to have an objective perspective to target the priorities and clear out the fluff.

Let’s explore the most common barriers we see every day and how we can help you move past them with clarity, confidence, and support.

1. You’re Drowning in Conflicting Advice

“I just don’t know what’s right for my body anymore,” said one of my clients.

One day you’re told to eat more protein. The next, it’s plant-based or intermittent fasting. The sheer volume of health advice out there is exhausting and often confusing.

How individual support helps:

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all health plans. Through personalised assessments and supportive conversations, I can help you understand your body, what it needs, what it’s missing, and how to nourish it naturally. I try to avoid fads and focus on real, sustainable long term care.

2. You’re Busy Taking Care of Everyone Else

“There’s just no time left for me,” mourned my client yesterday.

Between work, kids, family, and everything else life throws at you, prioritising your health often slips to the bottom of the list. You might tell yourself; I’ll focus on me when things calm down. But what if things never calm down?

How a naturopathic consultation helps:

I meet you where you are. Together, we’ll create small, doable steps that fit into your actual life, not your fantasy schedule. I believe wellness should feel supportive, not like another task on your to-do list.

3. You’ve Tried Before, and Gave Up

“Nothing seems to work for me long term,” is a very common complaint.

You start with great intentions, but after a few weeks, or days, old habits creep back in. The cycle is exhausting, and it chips away at your confidence.

How individual support helps:

Together we look deeper. Instead of treating just symptoms, we uncover what’s going on beneath the surface, emotionally, hormonally, and nutritionally. Myr job is to guide you, gently and consistently, toward changes that stick, because they make sense for your quality of life, not just your body. I re-assess your Treatment plan at each stage to ensure that you are on the optimal track for you and adjust anything that isn’t working.

4. Your Energy Is Gone Before the Day Even Starts

“I wake up tired. How am I supposed to change anything when I already feel depleted?” This is another concern that I hear a lot from my clients that I take very seriously.

When you're constantly exhausted, even thinking about change can feel overwhelming. The truth is, burnout and fatigue often come from underlying imbalances, not just being “too busy.”

How natural medicine helps:

Through a thorough assessment and resulting targeted Treatment plan, natural approaches like herbal medicine, adrenal support, and stress management tools are implemented to restore your energy and rebalance your nervous system. When your body feels supported, change becomes possible again.

5. Your Mental and Emotional Health Feels Heavy

“I know what I should do, but I just can’t seem to get there.”

There’s a strong link between emotional health and physical wellbeing. If you’re dealing with anxiety, low mood, or past trauma, even simple health changes can feel impossible.

How your Naturopath can support you:

I take your emotional health seriously. Mind-body techniques to help you shift emotional blockages may be the very first step in your Treatment Plan. I approach healing with empathy and compassion and will teach you strategies to incorporate into your day.

6. You Don’t Have a Support System

“No one around me really gets it.”

It’s hard to stay motivated when the people in your life aren’t on the same page. You might feel isolated or even judged for trying something different. Finding your tribe and like-minded people can be an important step in your health journey.

How a naturopathic consultation helps:

We create a safe space for you to feel seen and supported. Through one-on-one care, we’re here to remind you that you’re not alone, and that your health journey matters. I will divide your Treatment Plan into bite size pieces that are easy to achieve, to see results and give you the motivation to continue.

Here’s the Truth: You’re Not Failing, You Just Haven’t Had the Right Support Yet

Real, lasting change doesn’t come from pushing harder or being more disciplined. It comes from understanding your body, listening to what it’s asking for, and having someone walk the path with you. You’re not “lazy” or “lacking willpower,” you just need support that honours your whole self.

If you’re ready to feel better, without the overwhelm, confusion, or guilt, we’re here for you.
